Founded in 1889, the ENSAIT " l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textiles ", trains 47 % of French textile engineers to post graduate levels. ENSAIT engineers have a high scientific level and are general practitioner engineers initiated to the realities of an economic globalisation and endowed with real aptitudes for innovation.

Networks

Our networks

The International Relations Office at the ENSAIT offers support to both incoming foreign students and to ENSAIT students going abroad. It’s role is to facilitate both incoming and outgoing mobilities and create partnerships with leading universities, research laboratories and companies worldwide. Our objective is to create long-lasting international networks in order to enhance the success of ENSAIT student engineers in their future career.

Research at the ENSAIT

The Laboratory of engineering and textile materials GEMTEX

GEMTEX is structured around two main research areas, namely, processing and chemistry of materials and composites, (which include processing of textile materials and properties) and automation and textile logistics, (dealing with modelling, simulation and control of textile processes as well as supply chain management). Because of the pluridisciplinarity of these complex researches the most important themes of research are shown on the schema but many other that imply both teams are also realized.

Studies at the ENSAIT

Academic years and semesters

The ENSAIT delivers at the ENSAIT MASTER DEGREE « Diplôme d’Ingénieur », after a three years study period. French students entering ENSAIT possess a two year undergraduate Scientific and/or Technological University qualification (BAC +2). Most of them come from Special Preparatory Schoolls, and are admitted after the National Entrance Competitive Examinations to “Grandes Ecoles”.

Foreign students can enter the second year of the ENSAIT after a 4-year bachelor degree.

The Academic Years are denoted:

  • YEAR 1 : E1
  • YEAR 2 : E2
  • YEAR 3 : E3

The studies take place in the form of semesters (in all 6 semesters : S5, S6, S7, S8, S9, S10)

During semester S10 students carry out their Master Thesis either in a Research Laboratory or in a private Company

Options

Students can follow one of the 4 following options during semesters S8 and S9 :

  1. Info Textile Designer
  2. Logistics (Supply Chain Management)
  3. Technical Textiles
  4. Textile Chemistry

Teaching forms

Teaching is organized in the form of :

  • lectures (CM),
  • classworks (TD) and
  • Practical Workshops (TP)

Teaching languages

All teaching is carried out in French language, but projects and Master Thesis can be carried out in English Language.

Knowledge assessment

EXAMS : Continuous assessment is organized within the framework of Practical Workshops (TP). You get a mark for other types of works achieved during T.D (classworks) sessions (eg. written and oral tests in language courses).

Semestrial exams (DS : "Devoir Surveillé") for each Course Unit, exams are programmed according to a specific calender. Resits are scheduled for September or October.

ECTS : The ENSAIT uses the ECTS (European Course Credit Transfer System) which has been developed and enlarged to guarantee academic recognition of studies periods spent abroad. A full-time student in a European university must have 60 credits to validate his academic year (or 30 credits for one semester)

Academic calendar

  • YEAR 1: S5-5/09/2005-20/01/2006; S6-23/01/2006-31/05/2006
  • YEAR 2: S7-5/09/2005-20/01/2006; S8-23/01/2006-31/05/2006
  • YEAR 3: S9-3/09/2005-18/02/2005; S10-depends on the project duration

Library and computer services

The ENSAIT documentary Services :

The ENSAIT library offers many information retrieval tools specialized in the textile fields. With subscriptions to 40 different magazines, 25. 000 books, 975 Industrial Innovation projects, 63 Ph. D theses, 3 textile data banks (World Textile, Textile Technology Digest, Colour Index), and an access to data bases on French and foreign patents, you have the possibility to find the technical information you need. The library has created different electronic tools such as press reviews and information bulletins, and proposes an open consultation of the database of its documentation on web site.

Computer Services

Students have free access to 4 Computer rooms (outside teaching hours), and have access to mails, and web services. ENSAIT E-MAIL and INTRANET Website There are two important information channels for students - the e-mail list and the ENSAIT intranet website. You will be then able to get information about courses, lectures, Conferences and events at ENSAIT. You can join the ENSAIT e-mail address with any e-mail address, so it is a good idea to do it as soon as you arrive at ENSAIT. The intranet website also contains an event calendar, where you will find updated information, and some useful links. ENSAIT intranet website : http://intranet.ensait.fr

From school to industry...

Partner companies propose a great number of internships to ENSAIT, but students are also encouraged to look for their placement themselves. In doing so, they acquire the experience that they will put into practice in their future career as engineers. About 23% students find their internship in a foreign company thanks to the close worldwide relationships developed by ENSAIT.

* Industrial placements

Year 1: technician placement

Objective : Give a global vision of the company, of its organisation and functioning, while making a real project that requires specific qualifications. The student's work is assessed by a written report and an oral presentation.

Year 2: Engineer Project

Objective : Work on a technical study and to find solutions to the problems raised. The student engineer learns how to organize his work and to communicate the results obtained.

* Projects :

Intensive workshop and 2nd year project.

Year 3 :Industrial Innovation Project

The abilities of the student to manage a project successfully can be assessed through these different projects. The final dissertation takes place in front of a board of examiners composed of teaching staffs as well as professionals from private firms.

n+i ENSAIT Program

Aims

To acquire a high level academic and vocational training, recognized at the national level (Engineer) and international level(MSc).

Admission requirements

Diploma of level Bac+3/Bac+4 (equivalence BSc) in the scientific field. Selection on student file, then direct individual evaluation by the network "n+i" of Edufrance.

Program

First preparatory training, intensive training course in French language (duration of 2 months during summer) in a language center in France. "Six-month period of Transition" in an establishment approved by the ‘n+i’ Network for the formations in the scientific field: scientific and technological level, French language (technical vocabulary) - Duration: 3 months, from September to December. Engineer Formation in ENSAIT: development and master of the language and French culture - In the field of textile engineering, deepening of scientific and technological competences acquired during the former formation in the student’s country of origin. The student can select one of the two specializations during the final year of the course of the ENSAIT (3rd years), logistics information-design or advanced materials.

Sector of employment and job opportunities

This formation makes it possible to occupy management positions, in France or abroad, in companies or organizations in sectors such as : traditional and technical textiles, composite materials (automobile, aeronautics...), research and development, retail, quality, info-design... Possibilities in particular with French companies that have subsidiaries in the country of origin of the student.
